About The Program

The H2 Demo

UC Davis is honored to partner with Toyota on the Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle Demonstration and Market Research Program and to help implement Toyota's vision of building the Northern California fuel cell vehicle community by linking academics, researchers, consumers and government agencies.

The Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis (ITS-Davis) launched its Fuel Cell Vehicle Demonstration and Market Research Program in December 2002, when the first of the two Toyota fuel cell hybrid vehicles (FCHV) arrived on campus.  A second Toyota FCHV arrived in October 2003.  The program seeks to identify the most promising early markets for fuel cell vehicles, educate communities about hydrogen and fuel cells, recommend designs for consumer-friendly hydrogen fueling stations, and analyze the lifecycle costs of fuel cell vehicles to better inform future public policy decision-making.

Thus far, the Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle Demonstration Program’s outreach, and educational efforts have reached over 21,000 people. A wide variety of audiences, including first responders, policy makers, international academics and local students have been exposed to these cutting-edge vehicles.

For more information about the program, please contact Pete Dempster, Program Manager, at (530) 754-5143 or pgdempster@ucdavis.edu.
